The Standing Basket

Did I tell you about the standing basket I bought from Wisley? I didn’t.  Picture below. On the left is what the basket looked like when I planted it. In the middle is what happened when I dropped it one morning having brought it in to protect it from frost. And on the right is what it looks like now - droopy!

I’m thinking of having a little rearrangement because the only thing really flourishing is the aquilegia (top left) and the hedera (that’s ivy to you and me) looks pretty happy too. The rose needs more shelter I think so I’m going to bring to a lower basket and honestly I’m not sure if it’ll be happy there either!

For those who’d like to know, the whole basket is made up of: A blue and white aquilegia, the hedera, a skimmia which is ridiculous because it’s going to want to grow, the miniature rose which is ridiculous because it was WAY too early and cold to plant it out, a helychrysum which wanted sun but isn’t getting it, a delicate pink fuchsia which isn’t growing, and a pink geranium which also seems unimpressed.

Oh yes, and the reason there’s a lolly stick in the basket is because I tried to tie the rose up to it. Total fail - but at least I got a magnum out of it :-)
